2020 marks the centennial anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment – a landmark victory for the brave activists who fought
for women’s voting rights. Looking back on this historic event after
100 years, the IndyBar Women and The Law Division (WLD) is hosting a Centennial
Celebration Kick-Off event entitled: “Have We Come a Long Way, Baby?”
from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in Courtroom 216 of the
Birch Bayh Federal Building and United States Courthouse.

Dr. Laura Merrifield Wilson from the University of Indianapolis will be
the main speaker for this event and will explore different perspectives
on the following question: Did the vote provide women with full participation
in American society, and if not, why? The program will also explore the
history of women in Indiana State government, as well as the changing
trends and expectations for women in national politics.

As a committed advocate for the IndyBar WLD, Wagner Reese is proud to be
a sponsor for this important and historic event. The seminar will count
as 1.00 NLS credit with the Indiana Commission for Continuing Legal Education.
Event rates will vary depending on whether you are an IndyBar Member,
a student, or a guest, but all are welcome to participate.

Supporting Women in Government

Here in Indiana, there are still many areas where women are underrepresented
in both politics and the law, and our state is one of five that has never
had a female senator or governor in office. At Wagner Reese, we recognize
the incredible contributions of women lawyers and politicians throughout
our state’s history, and we also aim to empower a new generation
of legal minds to succeed. This is just one of the reasons we work so hard to
invest in our local communities and spread awareness about the issues that matter. We look forward to hearing
from Dr. Wilson at the upcoming WLD Centennial Celebration Kick-Off.
