Medtronic’s MiniMedTM 630G and 670G insulin pumps were designed to make life easier for those
living with diabetes. Unfortunately, due to serious safety issues, they
could be causing more harm than good. The MiniMedTM 600 series insulin pumps have been linked to a potential defect involving
the retainer ring, which holds the insulin reservoir within the device.
If this ring is missing or damaged, it can result in inaccurate insulin
doses, which can have life-threatening consequences.
As those with diabetes know, an incorrect dose of insulin could lead to
hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia, so these concerns should not be taken lightly.
If you or someone you love uses a MiniMedTM 600 series insulin pump, make sure you know about the recent issues and
discover how you could be affected. Or, if you were harmed by your MiniMedTM 600 series pump, discover what could have occurred to lead to this serious
mishap and find out what you should do next.
On November 21, 2019, Medtronic sent a letter to certain MiniMed insulin
pump users, informing them of the potential safety risk involving the
pump retainer ring. This retainer ring holds a reservoir of insulin within
the pump, and if the ring breaks or falls out, it can prevent the pump
from administering the correct dose of insulin. As a result, the user
may receive too little insulin, or too much. And, as anyone who knows
anything about diabetes will tell you, maintaining healthy insulin levels
is absolutely key if you wish to stay healthy.
MiniMed 600 Series Insulin pumps affected by this defect:
- MiniMed 630G Insulin Pump (Model Number MMT-1715)
- MiniMed 670G Insulin Pump (Model Number MMT-1780)
Potential Damages
Medtronic has urged users to check their insulin pumps to see if the retainer
ring is broken or damaged. If it is, stop use immediately and see your
doctor. If you or someone you love has been harmed because of a defective
600 Series MiniMed insulin pump, our firm is here to help.
