A man in Liverpool, England recently went in for a routine urological procedure,
and when he went under the knife, the surgeon made a mistake and performed
a full vasectomy.

The Royal Liverpool Hospital has held nothing back in apologizing to the
man, and they have attempted to reverse the procedure (an operation that
is only 55% successful). The event is what health officials call a “never”
event, meaning performing the wrong procedure should never happen because
it is a careless mistake. Yet, the wrong procedures were performed on
148 patients between April and September of last year, according to
NHS England.

An investigation is currently underway, and the operating surgeon has been
suspended. While this specific incident happened overseas, this kind of
medical mistake happens regularly here in American hospitals as well.
