Deadly Monday in Indianapolis
After a weekend with multiple serious vehicle accidents, Monday failed to offer a reprieve. On Monday night, three accidents occurred in Indianapolis within the same hour, killing three people and leaving two others injured.
Just before 9 pm, there was a two-vehicle accident on South Post Road between Rawles Avenue and East Prospect Street. The driver and passenger of one of the vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene, and the other driver, whose condition is unknown at this time, was taken to Eskenazi Hospital.
The second accident occurred shortly thereafter, when a dark blue Mitsubishi Lancer hit a 32-year-old motorcyclist in the 9400 block of East 38thStreet. The driver of the Lancer left the scene without calling the police or helping the victim, so the accident is classified as a hit and run. The victim is in critical condition at Eskenazi Hospital.
Prior to 10 p.m., there was third accident, this one occurring on Township Line Road at 86th Street. Reports show that Shana Elliott, 24, was walking south and was hit by a west-bound mini-van as she attempted to cross 86th Street. Police believe that Elliott was hit by one, possibly two, additional vehicles, neither of which stopped. The driver of the mini-van did stop to assist and call 911. Elliott was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
