VA Hospital Injuries - Increasing Without Regulation
New reports from the Government Accountability Office show that the VA hospitals across the country are injuring more and more veterans, but they are doing less and less to resolve the problems and investigate the causes.
According to the report, the investigations for adverse events went down by 18% from 2010 to 2014, while medical errors reportedly grew by 7% in those years.
The auditors on the reports stated that they don’t know the exact cause for the shift in these numbers, whether it is a result of unreported errors, or if many of the reported errors are not serious enough to call for investigations.
The most serious issue here is that VA hospitals don’t seem to know the cause for the reduction in investigations.
Medical Malpractice – Our Veterans Are Suffering
As government run facilities, VA hospitals seem to skirt around regulations and federal standards more often than independently owned hospitals. As a result, the monitoring of patient care, the number of injuries and patient deaths are much higher than they should be, causing rampant amounts of unnecessary pain and suffering for our veterans and their families.
