1 Injured, 1 Killed in Balcony Collapse
An investigation continues into a failed railing that injures 1 and claims the life of another.
In what was a tragic turn of events last Saturday evening, a balcony railing collapsed at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of East Minnesota St, injuring one man, Lee Church, and killing one woman, Denise Dohner.
Both victims were transferred to the hospital, but unfortunately Dohner passed away as a result of her injuries. Church was released just a short time later.
Accidents like this spur us to think about the safety of locations like balconies and porches, and we want to take a moment to remind you to check the safety of all your railings, especially after drastic changes in temperature, or major weather events.
Whether your balconies and railings are made of metal, wood, or rod iron, they are all subject to weathering, corrosion, termite damage, general wear and tear, and other factors. Checking the safety and security of these areas in your home could save a life.
