Meridian Hills Boulevard - A Fatality Waiting to Happen
A road connecting Indianapolis to Broad Ripple is notorious for accidents, in both day and night time hours.
Meridian Hills Boulevard, a road running through a community of just over 1600 people, sees an average of one accident per six weeks, many of them causing thousands and thousands of dollars in damages.
According to sources, the area is poorly lit, the roadway is narrow, there is no shoulder on the roughly 45 degree curve, and there are mature trees at the sides of the road. Indianapolis Power and Light says they have replaced a power pole at that location at least three times in the last few years, each time, the cost topping $10,000.
When the light poles are hit, power goes out for many of the houses in the area, and doesn’t return until IPL can get it back up and running.
So what’s being done about this accident magnet? Nothing, currently.
We just want to make our readers aware that these types of areas exist. If you are traveling to Broad Ripple to visit the bars and night life up there, find a different way to come home.
