Think You Can Text and Drive Safely?
Think texting and driving is no big deal? So many drivers have this attitude about their own “skills” when it comes to texting and driving, but are still in favor of others avoiding distractions while they drive. We all seem to think “it won’t happen to me” or “I can handle it” when it comes to texting behind the wheel, but AT&T has taken it upon themselves to show drivers just how dangerous they really are with a cell phone in their hands.
The new texting and driving simulator puts drivers to the test, requiring them to stay in their lane, maintain speed, and avoid having an accident of any kind, all while texting on their cell phones. Reports we’ve seen so far show that most are surprised by their inability to drive safely while texting, even though taking your eyes off the road and diverting your attention to your phone is so obviously dangerous. Why are we so surprised that we can’t multitask while we’re operating heavy machinery?

The most recent reports available from the U.S. Department of Transportation show that 3400 people were killed in 2012 as a result of distracted driving. Another 421,000 were injured as a result of distractions.
Avoid these distractions and temptations to use your cell phone while driving with several of the new tools from AT&T. New apps have been developed that allow your phone to go into different levels of “safe” modes so you are less tempted to use them while driving. There is even an app for parents to control the use of their teen’s cell phone while they are inside a vehicle. You can also get online and try the texting and driving simulator direct from AT&T. Download the apps directly from the App Store for Apple phones, or from the Google Play store for Android.
