The Insurance Company Has An Attorney
If you have been injured in a personal injury accident, dealing with an insurance company can be a nightmare. While they are supposed to be there to protect you and help you with an injury or illness, the truth is, they are often only interested in protecting their bottom lines and paying out as little as possible for claims.
So what do you do if the insurance company you’re working with is hassling you and won’t give you the money that is rightfully yours?
- First of all, don’t give your insurance company all the information. If the insurance company asks you to make a recorded statement, it’s always best to talk with an attorney first. You never know for sure if you’re going to need further treatment for an injury. Give as few details as possible at first.
- Don’t sign over your medical records. It may seem like a good idea to sign a waiver releasing your records straight from your doctor to the insurance adjuster, but what if you aren’t happy with the diagnosis from your doctor? What if it isn’t thorough or complete, or doesn’t cover everything you’re dealing with? It’s always a good idea to view your medical records first, especially with the assistance of an attorney.
- Don’t settle. The insurance company may want to offer you a quick, and low settlement, but it’s never a good idea to take the first offer. The first offer is almost always a low offer that saves the insurance company money.
Think of it this way…you may think that the insurance company is there to help you at all costs, but the insurance company has a lawyer helping them to avoid paying high claims. If they have a lawyer fighting for them, do you really want to take them on by yourself?
