Woman Who Drugged Children Sentenced to 10 Years
We shared a heartbreaking story with you back in November, the case of an Indianapolis daycare provider who was drugging children in order to keep them sedating during the times she “cared” for them.
What we knew then was that Stephanie Gribble, the operator of an unlicensed in-home daycare was using prescription drugs like Risperdone to sedate the children, and that she had also been previously given at least 13 violations for invalid care practices. Gribble pleaded guilty to 6 felony charges back in November, and was scheduled for sentencing, which happened just this past week.
According to Indiana’s RTV6, Stephanie Gribble was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and Judge Mark Stoner sentenced her with an additional three years of work release, and then an additional seven years of probation once her prison sentence is fulfilled. Gribble, now 38, will be nearing 60 when her full sentence is complete.
The children that were drugged by Gribble suffered a variety of illnesses and injuries, including seizures, drug poisoning, and more. Many of them had to be hospitalized, and some who had been suffering symptoms for a while, as a result of the druggings, were misdiagnosed and treated for other issues.
The families and parents of these children are not fully satisfied with the sentence, as many of them are still suffering ill-effects from her actions, and the repercussions leave them afraid of and untrusting of many childcare options.
Thorough investigations of daycare centers and childcare providers are essential before choosing where to place your child. The responsibility for these investigations, unfortunately, often falls on parents, as states and local governments are overwhelmed with trying to keep up with the regulations and inspections required for all these facilities. Choose your providers wisely, and do some legwork up front to ensure your child is in good hands.
