Marion County Doctor Arrested for Reckless Homicide & Over-prescribing
A Marion County doctor has been arrested on charges of pain medication over-prescriptions, which led to multiple deaths.
Dr. John K Sturman ran a pain clinic at the Indiana University Hospital until he had his privileges revoked in 2012.
According to investigations and court documents, Sturman initially lost those privileges for improper charting and documentation of patients’ visits in his clinic.
What documentation there is from his time as the head of this pain clinic shows that Sturman had a deadly practice of overprescribing highly addictive pain medications. Several of the patients with prescriptions from Dr. Sturman died, some as soon as 30 days after receiving those prescriptions.
Sturman was just arrested from his most recent employer, a VA clinic in Danville, Illinois.
Sturman is in jail in Illinois, but is awaiting transport back to Marion County, where he is facing three charges of reckless homicide and 16 counts of over-prescription charges.
