Take the Pledge: Drive Cell-Phone-Free
We are entering Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and this April, we want to partner with the National Safety Council and their efforts to put an end to cell phone use while driving.
According to studies from the NSC, 80% of the drivers on American roads believe that hands-free devices are significantly safer than hand-held devices, if not completely risk free. However, there have been over 30 studies done in the past few years that showed conclusive results of hands-free devices being just as deadly as hand-held ones.
Studies also show that when a driver is cognitively distracted (the type of distraction that results from having a phone conversation), they can miss up to half of what’s going on around them, including traffic lights, stop signs, and other drivers on the road.
The National Safety Council has some terrific resources you can use; posters & fact sheets you can share with your family and friends, post in your kids’ schools, and hang up at work. You can also take the Distracted Driving Awareness Pledge, and share your commitment to cell-phone-free driving on your social pages.
