Wagner Reese Sponsors Mexican Independence Day Celebration
On Wednesday, September 10th, 2014, Wagner Reese participated as the sponsor of the observation of the 204th celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day at the Columbia Club hosted by the Indianapolis-based Mexican Consulate. El Grito is the celebration of the Mexican independence from Spanish rule. The “Grito de Dolores” or the “Cry of Dolores” started in September 16, 1810 and makes the start of the Mexican War of Independence.
The “grito” was proclaimed by Miguel Hidalgo, a Roman Catholic priest and since 1825, September16th has been celebrated as Mexican Independence Day. During the day on September 15th, people gather to begin the celebration which includes food, music and festivities.
