Annual CFOI Report Released

Steve Wagner

The Indiana Department of Labor has just released its annual preliminary Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries report for the 2013 year. This report shows the total number of deaths in work-environments across the state, including percentage increases or decreases for each category and type of injury.

According to the report, the total number of fatal occupational injuries in 2013 came to 123, an increase from the previous year, but still the lowest three numbers the state has seen since these reports began.

The majority of these fatal injuries occurred in transportation-related accidents. There were 58 total fatalities, 32 of which were attributed directly to motor vehicle accidents or roadway incidents. The industry that saw the greatest improvement was surprisingly the construction industry, witnessing a decrease of 32% of total injuries, with only 15 fatalities suffered in 2013.
