Megabus Rollover Accident Injures Dozens
A double-decker Megabus carrying over 50 people overturned on I-65 early Tuesday morning near Greenwood, Indiana. One person is in critical condition after her hand was stuck under the bus, while dozens of others suffered minor to moderate injuries. Six of these patients are in the trauma center at IU Health Methodist Hospital and are now in stable condition.
Indiana State Police said the Megabus was travelling from Atlanta and headed to Chicago when the driver swerved to avoid another crash northbound on I-65. The bus was hit by another car and flipped over when it hit the median. FOX59 reports in an interview with Greenwood Fire Department’s Battalion Chief Chris Harrell that the guard rail “absolutely saved this bus from going into the southbound traffic.”
Both lanes of I-65 remained closed until 6:45 am. The bus accident is still under investigation, and we will continue to follow the story as it develops.
