Indianapolis Megabus Crash Update

Steve Wagner

We reported to you yesterday the first information about the Megabus crash outside of Indianapolis that occurred early Tuesday morning. Reports coming out today say that the safety and inspection records for this specific Megabus and driver, as well as for the company itself, Megabus Southeast LLC, are all above the national average.

This bus and driver were given a rating of “satisfactory”, which is the highest rating available for bus drivers and inspections records. Although it is not federally mandated that commercial buses be inspected each year, it appears that this company does a superb job of maintaining their vehicles, as well as training responsible drivers. School buses, and other non-commercial buses are regularly inspected by the Indiana State Police’s Commercial Vehicle Division.

At this time, reports do not show that mechanical failure of any sort was the cause of the accident, but the source of the crash is not yet known. We hope to update you further as we find out more information about this bus accident investigation.
