Indiana Medical Injury Report Reveals Bed Sores at Top of List
Up from 30 cases last year, Indiana’s latest medical injury report shows that 45 patients suffered from stage 3 or 4 bed sores this year. In fact, in 7 of the last 8 years, pressure sores have been the number one hospital-sustained injury that patients suffered in the state of Indiana.
Also on the list of most common injuries suffered by patients were foreign objects left inside the body after surgery, operations performed on the wrong body parts, and injuries from patient falls.
These medical errors can be deadly, or at the very least, uncomfortable, inconvenient, and expensive. With the exception of some falls which are likely unavoidable, these injuries are preventable with a little extra care and precaution.
The problem is that the majority of our nursing homes, hospitals and assisted living facilities are understaffed, or staffed with employees who end up being neglectful or abusive to patients.
