Steve Wagner

Eight passengers on an Amtrak train were injured this morning when a semi truck collided with the train just two miles north of Reynolds, Indiana.

The Amtrak was headed north on a set of tracks that runs next to U.S. 421, and the semi truck was moving east on County Road 200 North, where it crossed the tracks. The injured passengers were transported by ambulance to several area hospitals. Initial reports state that only minor injuries were suffered. According to the reports released, there were 56 passengers on board the train, and three crew members.

The semi truck was blocking the tracks, and was split in half when the train struck it, but no information has been released on the reason the semi was blocking the tracks. Were the lights and signals broken? Did the driver ignore the signals?
