Pedestrian Accident Kills Indianapolis Resident
A family in Indianapolis is asking the city to increase the safety measures around the intersections in the 4600 block of Michigan Road, and many other places around the city where sidewalks are narrow or non-existent, and crosswalks are poorly marked.
This request came after the death of community-beloved Calvin Bowie, a 72-year-old Indianapolis resident who was killed when he was crossing the street in his motorized wheelchair. Bowie, known to his friends as “Deacon”, was attempting cross street from the city bus stop across from his senior housing complex, but only made it halfway across the street when he was struck.
Bowie’s friends and family are calling for increased safety in areas like this one. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police report that in the last two years alone, 48 pedestrians have been struck and killed in accidents similar to this, a large portion of them occurring in the northwest area of Indianapolis
