New Crash Test Dummies May Save Lives In Car Accidents
CNN reports that the largest American manufacturer of crash test dummies, Humanetics, is engineering a new line of obese dummies in an effort to save even more lives with their technology. Studies have shown that the rate of death from car accidents is up to 78% higher among obese drivers, and 40% higher among drivers age 80 and older.
New crash test dummies are being manufactured to replicate a body weight of 273 pounds, with a body mass index of 35. The hope is that these dummies will tell car manufacturers more about the injuries being sustained during accidents, and how those who deal with obesity are suffering from greater injuries because of the way crashes impact their bodies.
Humanetics is also in the process of developing crash test dummies that simulate age in a person, so they can better test and prevent injuries in the elderly.
If you or a loved one have been injured in a car accident, you know the impact these injuries can have on a person’s life and well-being, as well as their family life. We are grateful to companies like Humanetics who are constantly working to decrease motor vehicle accident injuries and keep our roadways safer.
