Two Workers Killed in Construction Accident
Just two minutes before their shift ended this morning, two contractors (whose names have not yet been released) for the Rieth-Riley Construction company were killed when a 22-year-old crashed his pickup truck into them. They were in the middle of the construction zone between 82nd and 96th streets when the accident occurred.
The driver of the pickup, Jordan Stafford of Fortville, IN, sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Vincent Hospital. The details of the accident are unclear, and it is all still under investigation. We are terribly disheartened when we hear of accidents like this one, and we want to extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the two workers.
In light of this accident, we just want to remind our readers to be safe while driving through construction zones. For your own safety, and for the safety of the workers and their families, please adhere to the lower speed limits, and stay alert for lane shifts, moving equipment, and workers in construction zones. Above all, please put down your cell phones and stay free from distractions, not only in construction zones, but in all areas of the road.
