National Bike Month
You may be in it for your health, you may be in it to save money, or you may be in it to help the environment and reduce your own carbon footprint. Whichever is your reason for riding a bicycle, May is National Bike Month and celebrates the benefits of bicycling.
National Bike Month is sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and has been celebrated across the country since 1956. As part of National Bike Month, Wagner Reese wants to encourage everyone to give biking a try or to remember to watch for bicycles, in an effort to raise awareness of bicycle safety, and help everyone learn to regularly pay more attention to the cyclists who share the roadway with all of us.
If you would like to get involved in National Bike Month, you can join in the National Bike Challenge, or join Bicycle Indiana to help raise awareness, and advocate for education and safety for all cyclists and drivers.
Join us this month in taking extra steps to protect those who are biking on the road:
- Make sure to check your blind spots thoroughly! Bikes are small, and they are very easy to miss, but they have the same rights as you do on the road. Cyclists, keep your eyes open for oncoming traffic, turning cars, and cars whose blind spots you may be occupying. Realize they may not be able to see you, and get yourself to a safer spot!
- Keep your eyes open at night! Cyclists should always be wearing bright colored clothing and reflectors, but if they are not, they can be nearly impossible to see. If you are a cyclist, make it easier on drivers by wearing things that are easy to see at night and in inclement weather, and if possible, use a front and rear light.
- Take at least one day this month to get out on the roadways and bike. It will help put you in the shoes of those who do it every day, and give you a new perspective when you are behind the wheel of your vehicle.
If you have been injured in a bicycle accident, the law offices of Wagner Reese are here to help you get the compensation you deserve for your injuries. Call us today at (888) 204-8440.
