OSHA's Work Injury Prevention Using Video Games?

Steve Wagner

We are saddened by the amount of construction and industrial accidents we see each year. These work accidents, which are largely preventable, tear apart so many families, cost millions of dollars in medical expenses and lost work hours, as well as put delays and complications into our work zones and factories.

We are always excited to see new developments in safety engineering and technology, and we are pleased when training and hazardous materials safety are placed at a high level of importance. Last week, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration released a new interactive training tool that functions more like a videogame rather than typical safety training.

Still focusing on critical injury prevention, hazardous materials training, and safety knowledge, the interactive tool will allow employees to explore different work environments, run scenarios, and learn hazardous materials identification. If you are interested in learning more about this tool for your workplace, you can visit OSHA’s Hazard Identification Training Tool site.

We are hopeful that more educational prevention tools like this one can help reduce the number of worksite deaths and injuries in the years to come.
