Deep Rock Tunnel Project Construction Site Accident Death
Our thoughts go out today to the family of 25-year-old William Isaac Simpson, a Citizen’s Energy employee who was killed last night while working on the city’s Deep Rock Tunnel Connector project.
The accident is still under investigation by OSHA, but the spokeswoman for Citizen’s said there was no structural damage to the tunnel. The accident occurred around 3am, and an EMS Ambulance was called to the 6600 Tibbs Avenue site. Simpson was found about 7 miles into the tunnel; he was unconscious and had suffered a head injury. About an hour after they arrived on the scene, EMS personnel pronounced Simpson dead.
The Deep Rock Tunnel Project is an effort to separate sewer water from rainwater in the city’s systems, in an effort to keep our water cleaner, and simplify the filtration process. This will also keep sewage from running off into the rivers.
OSHA says the investigation will take a while, and could result in this project site being closed for up to three months.
