Nurse Charged with Battery, Neglect, and Strangulation

Steve Wagner

A nurse in Grant County, Indiana, has been arrested on battery charges after evidence was found showing she had beaten a patient.

The in-home health care nurse was responsible for injuries to a 16-year-old girl who has cerebral palsy. After the parents of the girl discovered injuries on her, they put a “nanny-cam” in her room, and later saw that the nurse, Veronica Summers, was hitting the girl and pulling her hair violently.

Summers was staying in the lounge rooms of Lutheran Hospital, posing as a visitor. Another visitor there discovered her when they saw her picture and information on the news.

Summers was charged with three counts of battery, one count of neglect, and one count of strangulation.

This story just goes to show us how common these incidents are, and how we truly have to be on the lookout to protect those who can’t protect themselves.
