Sheriff's Deputy Killed in Motorcycle Accident
The death of a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy, Eric Stofer, may be attributed to bad road conditions on Action Rd. near the Johnson County line.
The deputy, age 35, was killed Sunday night, after what was believed to be an incident in which his motorcycle hit a pothole causing him to lose control. EMT’s were immediately called to the scene and tried to keep him comfortable, although sources said Stofer was in a great deal of pain after the accident.
The Department of Public Works acknowledges six complaints made about this road, but officials there say the road has been repaired numerous times, but the work has not held up under the harsh winter conditions Marion County faced this winter. DPW sent another crew out early Monday morning to repair the patches once again in an effect to avoid this type of accident in the future.
