WISH-TV Investigates Wagoner Medical Center's Unsafe Prescription Practices
On Tuesday, November 5 on the 11pm news, WISH-TV highlighted the story of the Wagoner Medical Center and the unsafe drug practices that have been called into question during the past year. Watch the investigation on WISH-TV’s site.
Dr. Don Wagoner, Dr. Marilyn Wagoner, Dr. William Terpstra and Dr. Robert Brewer all had their licenses suspended earlier this year and were arrested for unsafe prescribing practices and drug mixtures. These doctors, along with five other workers in their offices were brought up on charges, and 95 felony charges were handed out between these nine people.
In April, the doctors were being held with a bond of $1,000,000 a piece and the assistants were being held for $75,000 each. The Medical Licensing Board approved agreements between Dr. Terpstra and Dr. Brewer in April, reinstating their licenses under restricted circumstances.
In August, the state froze the assets of the Wagoners, and restraining orders were put out for the 14 businesses the Wagoners owned while prosecutors pursue racketeering charges against the couple. It is believed that the Wagoners were laundering money through their businesses in an effort to profit further off drug sales. The Wagoners are being charged with felony drug dealing charges on top of the unsafe prescribing practice charges.
All four of the doctors, the physician assistants and the medical assistants have pleaded not guilty to the charges they are facing.
