12-Year-Old Injured Suffers Serious Injuries After Hit & Run Accident
A 12-year-old girl who was about to enjoy the Halloween festivities in Lafayette, IN last night was suddenly injured as she was crossing Kossuth street at the 700 block.
A maroon Ford Taurus with a female driver struck the 12-year-old, leaving her with serious leg injuries. The driver of the Taurus fled the scene and the girl was taken to IU Health Arnett, where she was later airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
Police interviewed other drivers and witnesses at the scene, and were able to apprehend the suspect within a few minutes of the accident. She was still within a mile radius of the accident site, and the windshield of her Taurus had been shattered.
Police say the little girl is in stable condition, but has serious leg injuries. It is believed she will make a full recovery.
