Indianapolis Bus Accident Kills Three & Injures Several
On Saturday, July 27, a bus from the Indianapolis Colonial Hills Baptist Church carrying 37 people returning from a camp in Michigan crashed near Interstate 465 around 4 pm. A married couple, along with a teenager, were killed in the accident. Several other teenagers were transported to area hospitals, some by helicopter and others by ambulance.
A camera from the Indiana Department of Transportation shows the bus overturned on its side. The bus apparently entered the median while turning left onto southbound Keystone Avenue when exiting Interstate 465 at a high rate of speed. The bus struck a concrete wall, flipped into the air and landed on its side. A witness reports that the driver expressed that the bus brakes had failed.
Many witnesses of the bus crash came to assist the victims, and four provided medical treatment before first responders could arrive. Twelve ambulances were used to transport victims to hospitals including Methodist, Riley Hospital for Children, St. Vincent, and Community North. Family members are asked to go to the church for more information on the passengers involved in the crash. The address is 8140 Chapel Hill Road.
