Laura Walker Swafford
Indianapolis Attorney at Wagner Reese, LLP
Laura Walker Swafford was born and raised in Carmel, Indiana, and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Public Affairs with a concentration in Legal Studies. While at Indiana University, Laura improved the collegiate experience of young women within her own sorority as Vice-President of Campus Relationships. Leveraging that experience, she oversaw sorority recruitment for all nineteen Greek chapters facilitating over 2,000 participants in the role of Vice-President of Recruitment of Panhellenic to create a better experience for as many students as possible.
Laura earned her J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, where she served as President of the Student Bar Association, an executive member of the Indiana International & Comparative Law Review, and a member of The Women’s Caucus. As president, she was a liaison between school administration and the student population and organized and coordinated the school’s career fair in order to help individual students succeed.
Laura represents individuals and their families in significant personal injury, wrongful death, and civil rights cases. Prior to joining Wagner Reese, LLP, Laura was a litigator with a well-respected Indianapolis defense law firm where she focused her practice on cases involving personal and catastrophic injuries, employment discrimination, and civil rights violations. In her work as a defense attorney representing the larger corporations that caused injuries to individuals, Laura gained valuable experience that allows her to anticipate defense counsel’s arguments, which in turn, allows her to aggressively and effectively advocate for clients. This prior experience sharpened Laura’s trial skills and has helped Laura to effectively advocate for and represent injured clients and their families.
Laura is admitted to practice in the State of Indiana, the Southern District and Northern District federal courts, and in the Seventh Circuit federal appellate court. She lives in downtown Indianapolis and enjoys reading, sailing, and spending time with her friends and family.

I was born and raised in Carmel, Indiana. I have to be honest with you, I like to be in charge. I’ve been involved in leadership positions throughout my whole life. In high school, I was involved in the student government. At IU, I was on the executive board of my sorority and also the Vice President of Recruitment and at the National Panhellenic Association and then in law school, I was the Student Bar President for my last year of law school. My law practice involves a wide array of personal injury including motor vehicle accidents, construction accidents, trucking accidents, slip and falls, civil rights violations, and wrongful deaths.
When I started my practice I worked for a defense firm in Indianapolis where I represented the corporations against individuals. After a couple of years of working on that side, I realized that my passion was helping individuals that had been affected and hurt by these larger corporations and so I decided to make a change and move to Wagner Reese so I would be able to help those individuals against the corporations.
One of the things I enjoy most about helping injured people is helping them navigate through a very difficult time in their life and help them navigate through the legal process. I’d have to say that the thing that sets Wagner Reese apart is our competitiveness. We’re willing to fight as hard as we can within the rules of the professional responsibility to get the best result for our clients. I might look innocent and sweet but I actually am a pit bull in the courtroom and am willing to aggressively argue and represent my client. If you’ve been in an accident, please call me today. I want to hear your story and see if I can help.
