Synopsis

  • Each June, the National Safety Council creates awareness efforts around
injury topics of most relevancy for both individuals at work and at home.
  • In 2018, the organization has done a great job sharing facts and supporting
injury prevention on these four topics: emergency preparedness, wellness,
falls and lift hazards, and driving accident prevention.
  • One startling fact shared comes from 2017 crash data that shows more than
40,000 people died in motor vehicle crashes with the three biggest causes
of fatalities on the road being alcohol, speeding and distracted driving.
  • At Wagner Reese, attorneys are helping Hoosiers each and every day, but
we spend a great deal of time assisting those who were injured in car
accidents, or who were injured on the road by the negligence of a driver.

Please Share This Message: June is National Safety Month

The National Safety Council (NSC) works to “eliminate preventable
deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the road through leadership,
research, education and advocacy.” This year, NSC has designated
each week in the month of June to bring awareness to four prevailing safety
issues, including:

  • Week 1: Emergency Preparedness
  • Week 2: Wellness
  • Week 3: Falls and Lift Hazards
  • Week 4: Driving Accident Prevention

As personal injury lawyers, we see people every single day who have suffered
or sustained an injury as a result of one of these topics. We wanted to
take some time to review week 4’s focus on driving accident prevention
since most often we find ourselves assisting people who were injured in
car accidents, or who were injured on the road by the negligence of another driver.

National Safety Month Ends with Focus on Prevention and Safety of Drivers

The last week of the month takes a special focus on protecting drivers
in addition to providing supportive tips from leaders in car and traffic
safety who together have created tools and actionable items for anyone
to use and take on. From drivers who operate a motor vehicle while at
work to parents supporting their teens safe driving choices, the topics
NSC is sharing during the last week of National Safety Month are sure
to resonate with most Hoosiers:

  • Distracted Driving
  • Teen Drivers
  • Child Passenger Safety
  • Advanced Driver Technology System
  • Vehicle Recalls
  • Motorcycle Safety
  • Impaired Driving
  • Fatigued Driving

In 2017, more than 40,000 people died in motor vehicle crashes with the
three biggest causes of fatalities on the road related to alcohol, speeding
and distracted driving. All of these are related to driver choices, are
preventable and create extremely dangerous outcomes. At Wagner Reese,
we fully support the National Safety Council and are happy knowing we
have covered many of these topics already here on our blog or within our
social media community, but we also know more discussion is needed. As
National Safety Month closes, there is no reason the resources provided
can’t be reviewed, shared, and discussed throughout the entire year
with your friends and family.

Remember, Wagner Reese is here to help you if you do become injured, but
