The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has dismantled a “Cash For Pills” scheme this morning after a nine month investigation. The scheme was led by Dr. Larry Ley who has offices in downtown Carmel. Three other doctors were apprehended, including Dr. George Agapios, Dr. Ronald Vierk, and Dr. Luella Bangura. Six staff members were also arrested in connection with the investigation.
The offices raided by the DEA included
23 East Main Street, Suite 200, Carmel
813 Westfield Boulevard, Suite 100, Noblesville
121 North High Street, Muncie
3827 South LaFountain, Kokomo
801 Airport Road, Centerville
FOX59 reports that the investigation began after complaints from relatives of a deceased patient that Ley and the other doctors arrested were giving out Suboxone. Suboxone is an alternative to heroin and methadone. Undercover officers captured the doctors giving out the drugs with photographs and video. Ley also used a website called DoorNetwork.com to search for patients looking medication.
